Things to do in Waipara

Waipara is a picturesque valley just 45 minutes north of Christchurch. One of New Zealand's premier wine regions the area is know for superb pinot noir and riesling. 


 Visit one of the vineyard restaurants and the many tasty rooms. To add to your gourmet experience, there are olive groves, nut farms and fields of lavender.

Wiapara is a great place to stretch your legs, either on the cycleway between the wineries, or on one of several beautiful walks. Enjoy wandering through Iron Ridge Quarry Park; this disused quarry has been converted into an art gallerty and enormous steel sculputres. 

​

Home to the historic Weka Pass Railway you can stay at the Waipara Sleepers and book your steam train experience which is just a 10 minute walk up the road.

This 3 hour return walk leads to the remote beach where Kate Stream enters Pegasus bay. The walk traverses through the heart of the Tiromoana Bush and return to the Mt Cass Road car park via bush remnants and wetlands with spectacular views along the coast.
